Really amazing lady named Elizabeth from the upper west side of Manhattan. She saw the Harinam party and immediately sat down on the bare ground and began chanting the Maha mantra along with the kirtan. She closed her eyes and looked quite absorbed for at least ten minutes. Then she came up to the book table and I started speaking to her. She said that she’s a spiritual seeker and she roots herself in God through prayer and meditation. She likes to visit Amma when she’s in New York and attends other gatherings. She has some of our books like the Bhagavad Gita but I told her that I have a very special set meant especially for devotees like her. She knew a little bit about Srila Prabhupada but was happy to hear about his biography set when I was telling her how he made so many sacrifices to spread the chanting of “Hare Krishna” all over the world in only ten years. She’s been to Vrindavan and really loves going there regularly so I told her the reason that we know about Vrindavan is because Srila Prabhupada left Vrindavan to bring us Krishna consciousness. She wanted to give a donation and when I suggested how much she could offer she ended up spontaneously giving double the amount so I gave a Sapta set as an extra gift. When I handed her the Mahat tattva set she folded her palms and started literally crying because she was so overwhelmed. She lives a few blocks from our ashram so I also invited her to our Sunday feast program.

Nice lady named Melissa originally from Hong Kong and her son Aeon who’s half Jamaican. She was looking at the Harinam party and just hearing the chanting with appreciation. Her son was loving the chanting even more than she was and he was blissfully smiling. She told me that she practices kundalini yoga and is really into mantra meditation and loves to listen to Sikh bhajans. She never got any of our books before so I showed her the “Sapta” set and told her how my Guru maharaja really wants these books to be distributed daily to New Yorkers. I was explaining the importance of guru and fulfilling the instructions of the guru and she was very attentive to what I was saying. Before she bought the set she said: “I’m really going to do you a favor and take these books from you. I really don’t want them because I don’t read a lot but I’m taking them because of your devotion and enthusiasm to share them with me!” Afterwards she brought her son’s baby carriage right next to the Harinam and gave him the shakers to play along with the kirtan. They stayed with us for half an hour and we could tell her son was becoming ecstatic from the Holy name.

Very nice lady named Yolanda from Colombia visiting her daughter in New York. When I first stopped her she told me that she speaks very little English so I told her it’s ok we can speak in Spanish because I’m from Puerto Rico. I offered her an “On chanting Hare Krishna” pamphlet in Spanish and she gave me a $20 donation for it very humbly. She told me that her daughter is very spiritual and just recently went to India to meditate and do a yoga retreat for a month. I told her wow that’s great and showed her our set and explained that these are the most ancient yoga and meditation books from India. Very nice lady named Marilyn from Colombia! At first when I stopped her she didn't actually show much interest in getting any books even a small Spanish book but then Krishna gave me the intelligence to start speaking to her in Spanish and glorify her country and how Colombian people are so pious and spiritual. I commented how peaceful she looked and slowly I noticed that she became more attracted to the spiritual energy of the Harinam and the sound vibration of Ramaraya prabhus ecstatic kirtan. I showed her our set then told her a few things about Krishna’s name and how it means the All attractive Supreme Personality. I explained that the only real goal of our life is to achieve Him and His shelter and not simply remain stuck here in the material world. I could tell she was getting some kind of spiritual feelings sprouting up in her and she told me ok she wants to get the set so I encouraged her to read the books in order to make her life successful. She first came across the Harinam party on Saturday in the Times Square subway station and I had spoken to her about the philosophy of Krishna consciousness. I could tell she was very interested and responsive to the books so I also asked her about taking a “Sapta” set instead but she told me she will definitely come to our Sunday feast program and get it from us then. She was impressed with the philosophy and the class at the Sunday program and loved the kirtan and prasadam as well. Very nice lady named Maya from Staten Island. Her father is Hindu and her mother is Catholic. When she was young she decided to follow Hinduism like her father and she really likes Ganesh and chants the Ganesh mantra to remove the obstacles in her life. I told her that her name is one of the names of Parvati the wife of Lord Shiva and the mother of Ganesh! She’s currently reading a book about Lord Vishnu and told me she loves to read spiritual books. At first she wanted a copy of the “Science of self realization” and gave $10 donation for it but then after speaking with her and seeing how sincere she is, I showed her the “Sapta” set. Really humble young lady living in Long Island originally from Puerto Rico. She was looking at the Harinam and listening to the kirtan and I went up to her. When she told me her name is Shiomany I said wow that’s so original it sounds Indian! She told me that she’s been practicing meditation and pulled out a book on meditation that she was reading with an image of a peacock on the cover! I asked her if she likes peacocks and she told me that she’s been seeing peacocks everywhere lately so I explained to her that the peacock feather is a very special feather because Krishna wears one on his head and it’s very symbolic as it represents transcendental vision. I showed her the set but at first she was saying that she just wants one book but I told her she deserves to get the whole set of books. I asked her where she was from and she said Levittown and I told her that I used to work in Levittown then I showed her a picture of Krishna wearing a peacock feather and told her: “look it’s meant to be, you should definitely get all these books!” She said it was too much of a coincidence that she ran into me like this and showed me what her friend had also just sent her which was a video of a peacock! How the Srimad Bhagavatam is an ancient text translated from Sanskrit into English and discusses the life of a king who’s preparing for death. She then told us that she’s always wanted to learn Sanskrit or at least read books translated from the Sanskrit language. It was near the end of the Harinam and I saw this little boy Jacob watching the kirtan and I asked him where his parents are. They were close by, the husband had a cool looking beard and the wife had dreadlocks so I said hello and asked them if they’re spiritual and the husband answered me first by saying some new age thing like how he just realized that he’s one with the universe! I said wow that’s really amazing and told him that these books give full knowledge about the universe and the Creator of the universe, they also teach how to get out of the cycle of birth and death. The wife said she’s really into yoga and loves India so I continued to tell them that all they need to know is contained within these books , all the secrets to getting eternal spiritual happiness. I asked them to please take the books home with them to Europe and that it’s the first time I meet people from Slovenia and I’m honored. They were happy to take the set even though they’re weren’t sure at first because it might be too many books to carry but they saw how enthusiastic I was and they gave a nice donation.

Very sincere gentleman who came up to the book table when he saw the Harinam party and was looking for the Upanishads so I showed him the “Sri Isopanishad” and the Gita and explained that it’s also referred to as the “Gitopanishad” He specifically wants to read proper philosophy based on the Vedas. He told me that he’s read the Torah, the Bible, the Koran along with some books on Buddhism but when he read the Rig Vedas it made the most sense to him philosophically. He’s not very interested in practicing meditation necessarily but prefers learning through philosophy. Seeing that he loves to read I showed him our set and he basically convinced himself to take it and gave a nice donation for the books.

I explained that the books contain the king of knowledge for kings like him and he loved that line. He likes to read a lot especially spiritual books so I told him these are the best spiritual books in the universe. He agreed to take the Sapta set and donated directly on our website. Really nice guy named Nassim originally from Algeria! He’s been living and working in New York City for the past 8 years and he’s lived between Algeria and France before that. He speaks Arabic, French and English fluently. He asked me what we’re doing here and I told him that we’re praying to God by chanting His names, it’s a form of ancient mantra meditation from India. When I asked him about the chakras he got very excited and told me that he’s really into all this wonderful eastern meditation then took out a book by Maharishi Mahesh yogi that he was just reading on the subway. He told me that he practices 30 mins of guided meditation every morning to clear his mind before going out for the day and it really helps him a lot. I showed him our Sapta set then said: “You’re the most sincere person I’ve met so far today and you deserve to get these books, please it’s a great opportunity to learn so much more.” He said ok he wants to buy the books then I also added an Arabic Gita. I gave him our ashram card and invited him to the Sunday feast, he said he’s definitely going to be there this coming Sunday because he lives on the upper east side not too far away.

Nice pious Indian lady named Aishwarya now living in west Harlem. When she walked by, out of inspiration, I just screamed out “Hare Krishna!” and she said “Hare Krishna” back with a smile. I was in a happy ecstatic mood doing books so I showed her our Sapta set at first and told her that we have an ashram in west Harlem. It turns out that she knows the devotees and her parents are actually initiated devotees for many years. I told her that yesterday was the appearance day of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and it would be auspicious for her to offer some donation to help the preaching effort and she gave $108 right away! So I gave her the “Sapta” and Lilamrita sets together and she was very happy!

I was taking the subway back to the ashram and I met this really nice lady on the platform while waiting for the train. I asked her if she’s spiritual and she said yes! She told me that she’s actually homeless currently living in a shelter and still looking for an apartment with government housing. I showed her a “Sapta” set and explained that these books are the only hope for anyone suffering in this world because they help us break free from the cycle of repeated birth and death and free us from the bodily conception of life. I also told her that these books will reawaken her love for God. At first she said she only has $3 dollars in cash on her but I told her please take these books it's a great deal and she can pay with her credit card but she hesitated and said she has to go..Then I told her to make a sacrifice for God just this one time and she will see how much He will sacrifice for her in return. She was so sincere and humbled by her life experience that she gave me a $45 donation for the books despite all of her difficulties. I also gave her some prasadam cookies and she thanked me. I’ll pray for her so she can become a nice devotee of Krishna very soon.

Quai from the Bronx soon moving to New Jersey! Very friendly person who works at the 40/40 club (a luxury sports club owned by Jay-z) as a brand ambassador. She told me that she’s into meditation and she considers herself quite spiritual. She told me that she’s running late for work and I said: “it’s ok please let me show you these books for a quick minute.” I showed her our set and explained briefly about each one. Her favorite was when I spoke to her about the “Nectar of devotion” by saying that the book talks about an eternal spiritual reality filled with pure spiritual emotion where’s there no envy, no anger, no hate of any kind just pure unconditional love for God. She really loved that whole description and wanted to get the books at that point. She also told me that she loves to read and she speaks several languages like Spanish and French.

Story of the day:
Good hearted homeless gentleman named Haru! He was watching the Harinam then one of the devotees went up and showed him a “Bhakta stack” and told him that people usually donate $10 for it. But he could only afford to donate $5 so he got a “Bhagavad Gita as it is” instead. He told us that he studied Siddhanta and Vedanta when he was younger and loves to read books about God. He wants to come back next week and get the “Bhakta stack!” Before he left he said: “Reading these kind of spiritual books is important because they can take you where you need to go!”

His name is Haru! He’s homeless and he wanted to buy a copy of the “Bhagavad Gita as it is!” Jay Srila Prabhupada!

Really nice gentleman named Mike from Long Island. He was on his way to catch his LIRR train when I stopped him. He looked really far out with his cool colorful jacket and I immediately thought for sure he would be interested. He told me that he’s always been a spiritual person and carries a feeling of a higher power controlling the world around us and he feels the effects in his life personally as well. He was genuinely sincere and very happy to receive the set. He’s already read the Bhagavad Gita but I’m not sure which version, now at least he’s getting Srila Prabhupada’s “Bhagavad Gita as it is” plus all the other books. Before leaving he told me that he’s sure these books will help him on his journey of spiritual discovery and he’s very grateful for this special blessing.

This nice lady was walking by the Harinam party and stopped to listen to the kirtan. She was enamored by Rama Raya prabhu’s ecstatic kirtan and watched for about ten minutes then took an “On chanting Hare Krishna” pamphlet. The Harinam party was set up in a different spot further into the subway area and Gopal Champu prabhu and myself were distributing books in the shopping mall area next to the stores. Then somehow Krishna directed this lady to us to get some books! When she saw me she said that she just heard some of the chanting in the subway and asked me if we have any books to offer! I said of course and I showed her our set and told her that she has to take these amazing spiritual books because she’s a cultured lady and she will definitely love this great knowledge. She wasn’t sure about taking the entire set at first but I told her that it’s a lifetime investment in her spiritual life and that’s it worth it for the price that we’re asking. I continued explaining that in bookstores like Barnes and Noble this many books would cost so much more but we’re offering her a special discount price practically just to cover the cost of printing and shipping. She said ok and gave a very generous donation so I also gave her the Lilamrita as an extra gift.

Very nice gentleman named Ferdinand from Guyana!
He was speaking with Krishna prasad prabhu at first and told him that he likes Jesus Christ very much and ended up giving $2 and receiving a copy of the “Sri Isopanishad.” He stayed to watch the Harinam and listen to the kirtan. He was quite a Jesus Christ lover and kept yelling out that he loves Jesus! Then before he was leaving he just came over to the book table area and put a $100 bill in the donation box! So we all told him we want to give him a special gift and gave him a “Sapta” and a Lilamrita set and he again gave another $20 donation! He had a prasadam cookie and said he loved it and asked for another one so we gave him several more cookies to take home!

Very nice gentleman named Guru with his little daughter from Brooklyn! When I saw him walking by I said: “Hey man you’ve got really good energy!” And he stopped right away and we started talking about meditation, he mentioned that he’s into understanding more about eastern philosophy. He loves reading about it so when I showed him the books I explained that they contain the highest spiritual knowledge. I told him these are the road maps that show how to exit this material world and enter into the spiritual realm. He didn’t have any cash on him but I told him it’s ok we take credit cards and he said ok let’s do it, that’s when I found out his name is Guru and I said wow that’s amazing! I started telling him about Srila Prabhupada how he’s our Guru and how he started a spiritual revolution in the hearts of people on this planet by writing these wonderful spiritual books about Krishna. Before he left he sincerely told me he believes our meeting was by divine arrangement.

Nice 22 year old young professional named Michael from New Jersey working in midtown Manhattan.
I told him that I like his energy and asked him if he’s into meditation. He told me that he’s looking for some peace and love and he tries to meditate sometimes to clear his mind. He was saying that he’s really struggling to keep a positive outlook because working in New York can be a lot of pressure. I showed him our set and asked him if he knows how many Chakras we have and he said yes seven! I said wow and told him that’s why we offer 7 books to open up the 7 chakras! I started explaining how these books will help him understand how rare the human form of life is and what the goal of life actually is. I pointed to the Srimad Bhagavatam and told him that it will give him the eyes to distinguish reality from illusion. Then about the Gita I said how so many great minds like Gandhi, Emerson, Nelson Mandela read it for spiritual guidance. In the end I was telling him that these books are the epitome of all spiritual knowledge and he will benefit so much from reading them. He was hesitating because he thought it’s a lot of books but I told him not to worry he can read them all before he dies and since he’s a young guy he’s got plenty of time. Plus I said it’s our Guru’s birthday today (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura) and it would make him really happy if he bought the books!

Nice gentleman named Rob from Puerto Rico. When I stopped him I asked him if he meditates and if he knows how many chakras we have. He told me that he’s into meditation and he answered that we have 7 chakras correctly. I told him I could tell by his energy that he was a spiritual and knowledgeable person. He likes to read so I showed him our set and told him that it’s very rare to find people from Latin America who are very interested in Vedic wisdom and reading spiritual knowledge like him and he said he’s not your average man. He was telling me that ever since he’s been young he’s been looking at things from a different perspective and he always asked his parents questions about death, why we are in this world and what’s the meaning of life. He’s a sincere spiritual seeker and Krishna directed him to come get Srila Prabhupada’s books from us.

Really nice person named Anne from Brooklyn! She just graduated from SUNY purchase university and is in between jobs at the moment. She lives in the downtown area where the Harinam is set up. She walked by and looked over at the table and saw our “Books on spiritual knowledge” sign but kept on walking then she told me that she thought to herself: “I should go back to see what books they offer, I have a good feeling about it plus I’m not in a hurry!” And she came up to the book table. At first I showed her the Bhagavad Gita and she told me she’s heard of it before. She was holding a book in her hands called “The Ends of the world” about climate change and past earth extinctions. She said she really loves to read so I showed her our set. We talked about Karma, reincarnation and self realization and she was saying that she went to catholic school for 8 years when she was younger then transferred to a public High school afterwards. After changing schools she said she was discovering that a lot of what she learned in catholic school wasn’t completely correct and she always felt that there must be some deeper knowledge that’s beyond religion and I told her that’s correct this is that knowledge! She lives close to the Brooklyn Radha Govinda temple so I gave her the contact info of some devotees there and she’s looking forward to visit soon.

Very pious Indian gentleman named Aditya originally from Hyderabad now living in the States! I was praying to Krishna to distribute another Mahat tattva set and then I saw him walking by and I stopped him. He’s familiar with all of Srila Prabhupada’s books and was very favorable to getting them right away. He was coming out of work in the Wall Street area when I ran into him. It turns out that his father had actually met Srila Prabhupada in the 1970’s in India and the family has been Iskcon life members ever since then. Their family home in Hyderabad is right next to the Hyderabad Iskcon temple and they all visit regularly for darshan of Radha Madanmohan; they also have Gaura Nitai deities there as well Jagannath Baladeva and Subhadra.

Nice gentleman named Sunil Roy from Bengal. He was passing by and I said: “Hare Krishna prabhu!” He stopped and offered his Pranams to me by bowing his head down. He was telling me that he goes to a Hindu temple regularly with his mother and some other members of his family. He told me that his mother, just last week, picked up a copy of a Bengali “Bhagavad Gita as it is” from us in Queens and she’s been reading it every day! Then I asked him: “prabhu do you know what last week was?” He said he didn’t know and I told him it was Varaha Dvadasi, the appearance day of Lord Varaha one of the Dasavatara incarnations, and because of that we’re celebrating this whole week. Then I showed him our set and told him that we want him to take these wonderful books home with him. He told me that he was more than happy to get the set and that he felt so fortunate to get this opportunity so he gave a nice donation. He took down my phone number before leaving so that he can get more books from me in the next few weeks to distribute to his friends and family.

Nice devotee named Aparajita prabhu from Russia! He’s been working with the MTA as an electrical engineer for the past 30 years and he’s only one year away from his retirement and receiving his benefits and pension. After he retires he’s planning on going to India and do some long term devotional service there. He knows a lot of devotees who work for the MTA! He’s planning on visiting us for our Sunday feast program.
