The kids ran up to the Harinam and sat down to play with the shakers. The mom was encouraging them and I noticed that she had an OM sign necklace on. I said: "you must be very spiritual, I see your OM necklace that makes good vibrations, she said "Yes I could tell the difference from when I started wearing it, I'm trying to be more in tune with the Universe." I told her "You're a seeker of the absolute truth, we have these books that will put you on the right path, on a scale of 1-10 how much do you like to read?" She replied "15! I read everyday". I showed her our set and told her she deserves the books. that we just ask for a donation. She replied "Your right, I'll take them"

They were watching the Harinam and clapping along with the Kirtan. When I approached them the mother started to say "Thank you for being out here we like coming to see you guys when the weather is warm. Back home in Guyana we lived across the street from the Iskcon temple and would regularly sponsor the Sunday feast." Her kids were very well mannered and her son even said he wanted to join the brahmacharis when he's older!
The mother also said she'll make Rotis prasadam and bring them next time she's in Union Square!

Reflection:
I can see how growing up in a family of devotees makes such a difference.

They were both watching the Harinam. I went over to them and offered some Prasadam cookies.
Kathy is a doctor from Jaipur. So I told her “Radha Govinda ki jay!”
Sapna is from New Delhi and knows about the Hare Krishna movement for many years. I showed her our set but she said she has all the books already. But then she was inspired to get it for her friend Kathy! Real spirit of friendship.

She recently graduated from High school and was taking a year off to try to really find herself.
I told her these books are about ancient spiritual wisdom. She was very interested when I mentioned that. She said that she's heard of the Bhagavad Gita and of all the great people who have read it. When I was teaching her the Maha Mantra she said: "Oh it's Krishna and Rama, I've heard of their stories it's really amazing. I'm surprised that more people aren't into this."

Sean was video taping the Harinam and I went up and asked if he knew who we were. He replied: "Yes, I love the chanting, I'm a big fan of George Harrison!" I told him how George Harrison had donated the Bhaktivedanta Manor to our organization and he sponsored the first printing of our Krishna book. He was appreciating those points, then he asked for a card to visit the temple. I showed him the “Saptarishi” set and told him George liked to read all these books. He instantly pulled out his wallet and said: "Today is my charity day I'd like to give you a donation."

Srila Prabhupada had a lot of affection for George Harrison. It's nice how a lot of people appreciate the devotees because of George's taking to Krishna Consciousness.

Extremely sweet family from Alabama.
"I’m from New York, where are you from?" They replied "Alabama!" The father then said: "you see son he's a monk. I really respect the fact that you've taken this vow of celibacy and spread the message of God." The mother asked some questions about yoga and I told her that real yoga is connecting with God. I asked if they likes to read she said "I love to read I'm in law school!" So I showed her the “Saptarishi” set and said: “These are the Spiritual Law books for this age, giving us a clear understanding on how we can use this human form of life to worship God." She liked that and the husband said: "we’re going to walk around Times Square then go to a knicks game but we'll take them! They're worth carrying around."

This family is going back to Krishna!

I was explaining the Bhagavad Gita to another gentleman at the book table and Erik was standing behind him listening. The other gentle took the Gita then Erik said: “I want one too!" I asked him if he heard of the Bhagavad Gita before? He told that a couple years ago in Union Square park he had bought one from us! He had started reading it and said he felt very connected with the teachings. After reading a few chapters he lent the book to a friend who never returned it. He said ever since then he would think "when will I see those monks again to get another Bhagavad Gita". Krishna made the arrangement and he got his desire fulfilled!

A guy from Nepal was walking by looking at the harinama in deep absorption and I waved at him while I was sitting at the book table and called him over to grab a cookie and an “On chanting Hare Krishna” pamphlet. As soon as he started walking towards the table a few of the book distributors tried stopping him (Since Nepalis are known for being pious and therefore taking book sets). But he just continued to the table without stopping and I put a cookie in his hand and a “Saptarishi” set in his other hand. He immediately pulled out his wallet! He gave a nice donation and bought the set. Amazing surrender!

Krishna says that there's 4 type of people that come to him including those in distress.
Seke came by at the end of Harinam when Ramaraya Prabhu was giving a small talk. The book table was already packed up. He looked at our sign "BOOKS ON SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE" with great interest. He then asked "where are the books?" I came over with a stack and said "here they are!". He then began to explain to me how he was looking for true knowledge. He said that life was beating him up and he was contemplating whether it was worth living anymore.
Then he said he got great hope when he started looking into spirituality. I told him that these books explain to us the Absolute truth. How the reason that we feel discontented in this material world is because we forget that we're servants of God. I taught him to chant the Maha mantra and he walked away with a smile on his face!

He was looking at the chanting trying to figure out what we were doing. He asked me "what religion is this?" I told him we were chanting the names of God. This process is beyond religion because to praise & serve God is the occupation of the soul. He told me he had heard of the Bhagavad Gita and that his father taught him to be opened minded and not reject something just because he didn't understand it.
He took the set and wants to come hear our classes on the Gita!

Really nice lady named China from Atlanta, Georgia.
I stopped her with "wow you look so spiritual.” She had a friend with her who became very excited saying "she is, she is, how can you tell." I asked China her secret and she said "I've been meditating since college, me and my friend came in touch with different mantras." I told her she was qualified for our Maha Stack and showed her the books. She said that on a scale of 1-10 she likes to read a 15 😁. She happily took the entire set!

On my way home from Harinam I carried a “Saptarishi” set in my hands determined to distribute it. I walked by Marcus as he was closing the coffee shop where he works. He asked me if I was a monk as I walked by so I immediately stopped. He started telling me how he's getting into meditation. I showed him the books and said this our "meditation library.” He said he’s eager to learn more and took the set.

I was standing with some books and she came up to me and pointed at the Bhagavad Gita. She asked me what’s that. I said do you like to read?
She said I like to pray!
I said we also pray as a matter of fact we’re praying right now!
Here’s a special set of books for those who like to read and pray like you.
They talk about the laws of God.
She said that’s good because I worship Jehovah!
Do these books talk about Jehovah? I said yes they do!
She said she had no cash and I said that’s ok we take credit cards!
Then she said I have no bag and I said that’s ok we have a bag no problem. So she gave a nice donation and took the books.

John, a really interesting gentleman. He showed me his crystal necklaces and said he was into practicing meditation daily. He has known about the Hare Krishna movement since the 1960’s. He loves to read about philosophy and supports all religions.
I asked him if he’s Jewish? He said yes but he recently met an Indian new age Guru who likes Srila Prabhupada’s books!
So I showed him the set. He told me he already has a copy of Prabhupada’s Bhagavad Gita and the teachings of Lord Chaitanya. But he wants the set and gave a donation!
Before he left I gently asked him if he would also like to sponsor another set for somebody and he said sure and gave another donation!

Noah-Daniel from Harlem gets the mercy.
On our way home we still had one set left in our bag and I was thinking these books have to find a new home.
We got off the train at 145th street. As we walked towards the exit I approached a few people, no one was interested. Then Noah stopped as I was about to walk up the stairs.
I asked him a few questions and he seemed semi-interested. Then he saw the Krishna book and said: “Hey I've heard about Krishna. Who is He?” When I heard that, it was like music to my ears. I explained how Krishna is the Supreme personality of Godhead our Divine source. I told him that we're all minute parts of Krishna, and that we reach our real level of satisfaction in our existence by serving him.
He accepted everything I was saying. Then the train came he said I got to go. So I hopped back on the train with him and we spoke some more until we reached yankee stadium! He said he had no cash, but offered to pay via "Cash app" and finally took the set!

Krishna's grace!
We got into the "wrong train" so I thought. I wanted to take the E but ended up on the F. When I sat down with the other devotees we were making our plans out loud about how we would switch to the D train to get home. Then a lady named Rita sitting across from me offered some advice "you can switch at 34th st". At first I kind of ignored her, but Krishna Prasad looked at me and said she wants books! So then I asked her do you meditate? She replied "Hare Krishna!" I then said "you know Hare Krishna?" She then replied "I'm from Kenya and there's a Hare Krishna temple near where I grew up, my family is originally from Gujarat." We spoke a little more and then I showed her the books. She instantly said "I have them all, but I can give a donation." She gave $25 at first and I thanked her. I was determined to distribute the set so I looked to my left and saw this other young lady sitting down a bench away from us. I told Rita: "since you gave these $25 I'll go see if that girl is interested and I'll tell her you already paid for half and that she only has to give the other half for the books." She became excited and encouraged me to go try.
I approached her and said "I like your bracelets, you look very spiritual" she was a little shocked at first but then replied: "I am, I do my mediation by singing. I'm in college in Baltimore, I'm a studying vocalist and I’m very interested in learning about other cultures." We spoke a little then I explained the books to her. She said "I really, really, really want to read these books, but I'm a broke college student. I just have no way to afford them."
As I'm speaking to this young lady Kierra, Rita the older Gujarati lady was watching with rapt attention. I said to Kierra "give me a few minutes I'll be right back" I went to Rita and told her that Kierra was interested in the books but had no money, and would she be willing to give the remaining $15 to cover the printing. Before I could finished my sentence she pulled out a $50 and said " give her the books, Krishna will bless her!"
Kierra was extremely grateful and Rita ( didn't want to be photographed ) also thanked us for doing this service of distributing books.

Today some inspiration came and I started to pray to lord Chaitanya before each person I approached. It really works!
It was the end of the Harinam and Ivan was walking by. I waved and said "you look really peaceful.", he stopped and thanked me then I asked him if he meditates? He replied: "reading is my meditation". I become excited and told him I had a special set of books for special people like him. I brought him over to the book table and showed the “Saptarishi” set and he was instantly inspired to take it!

Really nice lady who works as a security guard. She has a lot of time to read while she’s working!
She said she meditates but didn’t want the books at first.
I felt she wasn’t too interested but then Mahotsaha prabhu came up to us and said to her come on take these books. It was like she was hypnotized!
She told us she has a 6 year old son and it’s a little difficult financially.
Finally I said: “when your son grows up you can give him the books and he will become a spiritually educated human being.” So she took the set for him!

Nice guys from Guyana.
One of them came up to me and asked If I had a Bhagavad Gita and I said yes.
Then the other one also asked me for a Bhagavad Gita.
I gave them some prasadam and put a Mahatattva set in both their hands!
Turns out one of them, Keshava, is a devotee who goes to Radha Govinda mandir regularly.
I told Keshava that one of the sets is Srila Prabhupada’s life story. I told them please take these books they will bless your home! So Keshava took the full set and said his friend Lakshkrit will take a set next week!

He came up to the book table around the start of Harinam and was looking at the books with a very interested look in his face. I came over and said hello. We then spoke about the books a little and he mentioned how he's realized that you can’t find happiness in anything material so he's been looking for the deeper answers. He told me he would come back later for the set. I didn't feel too hopeful because many people say they'll come back but never do.
To my surprise 4 hrs later he came back with a huge smile saying "I'm back from my books 📚!"

She was really in a rush when I stopped her. But I said wait let me give you something special.
She kept saying she had to go so I said ok but please these are good spiritual books just take a quick look.
I want them but I don’t have time.
Finally I said to her: “Trust me If you carry these books home with you they’ll end up carrying you back to Godhead!”
She then gave a donation and took the set. Krishna inspired her from the heart. Amazing!

Very nice lady from Brazil. Her brother is a full time devotee living in the temple. His name is Shyamananda!
She told me that she can’t take the set because she’s low on money and not working right now. She only has a enough money for food until the end of the week.
I humbly told her: “If God feeds all the birds, beasts and other living entities why wouldn’t He feed you and your family. Just have faith!”
She thought about it and agreed to happily take the set. She took a risk and had faith in Krishna.

Charles from Puerto Rico. He was dancing in front of the Harinam. I told him wow I like your bracelet it looks the eagle Garuda! Do you like to read?
He answered: “Yes, I really love to read. I also meditate. I want these books but I can’t do it right now.”
So I told him it’s Lord Chaitanya’s appearance day if you get them today you will get a lot of mercy! He ended up leaving but after a half hour he came back! He told me that while he was walking around he had this feeling that he should go back and get the books. Amazing! Gauranga Mahāprabhu ki jay!

She was watching the harinam with a big smile. I went over and said "Hare Krishna!, my name is Gopal I'm a monk from the Dominican Republic. Where are you from?" She said "my name is Kripa from Nepal" I said "wow Mahaprabhu sent Kripa to get books!”
Then she asked me "who's Mahaprabhu?" So I explained how he's the combined form of Radha and Krishna and came to this world 533 years ago to spread pure love of God. I told her tomorrow is His birthday and he would give her His Kripa (mercy) if she takes these books. She said "ok lets do it, I'll take them!”

Nice Indian guy. I showed him a small set of books and he gave $20 then I told him I want to give you something you can’t refuse. I put a “Saptarishi” set in his hands and told him to give a bit more! At first he hesitated then Mahotsaha prabhu came and spoke a few sweet words in Telugu (his native language) and he at once pulled out his wallet and gave more for the set!

Today I went for a cleaning and when I saw her name I thought "she'll definitely take some of Prabhupada’s books". I showed her the set and explained the "Go Matsya" campaign. I told her that we're trying to preserve the Vedic teachings through mass distribution of literatures. She said "I'd love to contribute!"
She told me she already has 2 sets of Srimad Bhagavatam in her house, so I suggested she can hand out these books to her patients. She happily agreed.

Prthivite ache yata nagaradi-grama (CB Antya-khanda 4.126). This is Vaishnava. He is thinking for everyone. Because it is a fact, without Krishna consciousness, everyone is suffering.That's a fact. So therefore preaching is so important -- to awaken them. Jiva jago, jiva jago, gauracand... This is Gauracanda, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's mission, to awaken everyone from this material entanglement. That is preaching.

I was walking to the car and I had 2 sets and a Bhagavatam set on a trolley, this nice gentleman passed by me walking in the opposite direction with his dog 🐶. I noticed that he was staring at the books, I couldn't help myself and said "hey, do you meditate?" He replied with a big smile "Yes!, I've been reading different books for the past year to try and understand spiritual things more deeply." He mentioned how he'd been looking into Buddhist teachings among other things. I showed him the picture of Buddha in the 1st canto of Srimad bhagavatam and explained the other books.
He then said "man I really want the books, how much do I have to pay?", I told him the suggested donation, and then he told me to wait a few minutes and ran to his apartment and came back with the money in hand.
When I asked him his name he said "Cesar" I told him, "you won't believe me if I tell you, so I'll just show you." I pulled out my license and showed him that my name was Cesar also. He said "It was meant to be! I was supposed to get these books today, thank you so much."

Mother, daughter and son get the mercy!
Evan is her 9 year old son. He was very enthusiastic to get the set. His mother told me that she’s been teaching him meditation since he was only 2 years old!
Her daughter looked at the “Science of self realization” and said it was on her reading list.
The mother already bought some books before from us in Union square park but now she wanted to get some for her kids. I told her these books will teach them how to become proper human beings. She thanked me for the books and so did her kids.

These two very nice girls walked by with a sign that said save Mother Earth! Environmentalists and Revolutionaries. They want to save the planet and they’re passionate about it.
I showed them some of the books and one of them recognized the Krishna book because she saw it in the library but forgot her library card that day and couldn’t take it out! So I said please just take the whole set and she said yes I can give $50 for it.
Then I began praying to Srila Prabhupada for them to also take the Lilamrita set. I explained how Srila Prabhupada is the greatest revolutionary and how he started a spiritual revolution, they ended up taking it too! They left very happy!

Daisy is a retired nurse and said that lately she's been wanting to dedicate her time to her spiritual life. She told me that she's walked by the Harinam many times and just kind of watched from a distance. Today as she walked by I approached her and said "you look really spiritual" she replied: “thank you for noticing! I've been working on it!” I brought her over to the books and showed her the Saptarishi set and she was saying yes I'll take them before I was able to explain all the books. Then she mentioned: “you know, most people think that's there's only 7 chakras, but there's actually 14" so I said "wow! No way! We have the special stack of 14 books for the 14 Chakras!” I showed her the Prabhupada Lilamrta and she said I'll take it also!
She's eager to visit the temple and is also working on becoming a vegetarian!

In 2015 when I was selling cars Kumar walked into the dealership and I helped him buy a brand new Honda Civic. At the beginning when I first approached him I could see he was a little uneasy doing business with a young person like me, I had already started reading Bhagavad Gita at the time and for some reason I mentioned that to him while we were on a test drive. That completely changed the whole mood. He instantly started to feel more comfortable and bought the car from me.
Fast forward 4 years, now Krishna arranged that we meet in the subway and again I sold him something 😊, but this time something much more valuable then a car. He was happy to take the Prabhupada Lilamrta set and told me. "Thank you so much for doing this. You could have been so successful in car sales and the business world. You’re so brave for having taken that step to fully dedicate your time to Krishna. your doing the best thing keep it up!"
