Super sweet friendly lady visiting New York from Canada. I stopped her and asked her how she was doing and if she was a spiritual person. At first I showed her a smaller set of books that we call the “Bhakta stack”, I asked her if she likes to read. She was very personal and told me she really loves reading. I spoke to her about the “Krishna” book and she told me that she just saw a documentary recently about Krishna and was quite intrigued! Then she pointed to the “Krishna” book in the Sapta set and told me she wants that set of books instead of the smaller one. She told me she was praying for some guidance.
She was so touched with what we are doing with the Harinam and book distribution. She gave a very generous donation so I gave the “Prabhupada lilamrita” set too. Then she told me she wants to give some more for that set and she did.
She ended up giving enough of a donation for two “Mahat tattva”sets!

I asked this nice couple: “Are you guys married? You look good together.” The gentleman replied that they don’t need to sign a piece of paper to feel united and be faithful to each other. I said: “wow, you both must be very deep to have that realization about your relationship, these are deep books especially for thoughtful people like you. These books are from India, they’re meant to help us solve all the problems of material life and enter into a happy spiritual life.” They took the set and some prasadam cookies too!

Krishna prasad prabhu recalls:
I really wanted to do another set before the end of the day and I was praying. I was on my way home back to the ashram and I saw this nice gentleman smoking outside of a bar so I went up to him.
I asked him if he’s a spiritual person, he told that he had an out of body experience a few years ago and he started practicing daily meditation mainly by chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” He also became a vegetarian and tries to pray regularly.
He told me that he lost his apt and had to put all his belongings in storage. He’s taking a much needed vacation tomorrow. He felt that he had to get the set of Srila Prabhupada’s books and was very interested. He told me that he probably wouldn’t get to read them until he got back so I gave him two smaller books “Sri Isopanisad” and “Nectar of instruction” to take on his trip.
Towards the end a friend of his was there and began discouraging him from buying the set and spending money but he ignored him and really wanted the books anyway.

They’re really good friends, I saw that the young lady had an Om tattoo on her shoulder and told her I could tell she was a spiritual person because of her good energy.
I showed her our set and explained that this is a Vedic encyclopedia to help us get freedom from birth, death, old age and disease. She was really excited to get the set and grabbed the books from my hands. She gave me a donation but it wasn’t enough to cover the set so I asked if she could give a little more. Then her friend said he would give the rest of the donation with his credit card.

This mom, Sierra, was really cool and down to earth. She told me she was a yogi and practices daily without fail. She was really positive right from the moment I ran into her and her kids. She was really happy to get the set and I didn’t need to do a lot of convincing.
I just told her she has an effulgent energy and asked her to please take these books because they’re for very spiritual people like her. She was a pious, kind hearted lady and I could tell Krishna sent her and her family our way just to get Srila Prabhupada’s books.

Real nice Indian American gentleman who’s family is originally from Gujarat. He’s currently a law student at Harvard university in Boston. He’s in New York City for a summer internship at a big name law firm. He told me he walked by the Harinam a few weeks ago and wanted to get a copy of the Bhagavad Gita but he was in a hurry to get back to his office. Today he had a little time on his lunch break and he came by to look at the book table. Seeing how interested he was I showed him our set. He was telling me that he was talking about the Gita with a friend of his a few days ago and telling him what an amazing book it is. He was very eager to support us and get a copy of the Gita.

They sat down with us and chanted for over an hour. They’ve toured all the temples in New York and wanted to spend some time with the Harinam today. They had some prasadam cookies, they loved them and said they were the best they’ve tasted in a while. Ananda prabhu just asked them if they had a Lilamrita set and they told him they didn’t but would love to get it.

The blonde young lady came up to me and said: “Haribol, Hare Krishna how are you?” She has a tattoo on her arm of verse 2.12 from the “Bhagavad Gita” She told me that she has several of Prabhupada’s books already at home but then I showed her the “Prabhupada lilamrita” and she wanted to take it. She gave a nice donation but then I turned to her friend and told her that she should also take some books. Then the blonde young lady encouraged her friend by telling her how great the books are and how they’ve helped her in her spiritual journey. This nice young lady just walked up to me and asked: “do you know Shivananda?” I answered: “you mean the Shivanda ashram upstate, yes I know and these are some of the books that swami Shivananda really liked such as the ‘Bhagavad Gita’ which is a world famous spiritual masterpiece.” She told me she already has so many books. I explained to her that these are not ordinary books, just by taking them home they will transform the energy and she will feel it. She still wasn’t sure about taking the set then Kamalini mataji came over and looked her right in the eyes and said: “I know you probably have a voice in your mind telling you should I or shouldn’t I get these books but you should listen to the voice that’s telling to get them because that’s the voice of the Lord!” She then agreed to take the set and thanked Kamalini mataji for her encouragement. That was good teamwork.

Very nice lady we met on our visit to Blue stone farm. She’s actually a devout Christian nun but also considers herself a Christian Hindu. She likes to read many different kinds of spiritual books and she showed us her library. And amongst her favorite Indian spiritual personalities is Ramana Maharishi who was a proponent of Advaita Vedanta philosophy.
She talked to us about the Holy Spirit and how there are many similarities between Hinduism and Christianity. Very nice time we spent with her.

Right after the Harinam ended I quickly stopped him in hopes of doing another set. He was a really good hearted guy. He’s into Reiki and meditation and he’s a spiritual healer as well. I told him these books heal the material world disease of lust, anger, greed and envy! He really liked that statement and told me he would love to read more about it.
I explained to him that we come out daily to chant the names of God and do some spiritual outreach to help New Yorkers so he was happy to support us.

Real cool friendly person. I stopped him and told him I liked his tattoos. He actually started practicing Bhakti yoga about 3 years ago when he first started going to the Bhakti center and attending the Thursday night kirtans.
The first Srila Prabhupada book he read was the “Srimad bhagavatam” first canto and he really enjoyed it. He really likes the philosophy and the chanting as well.

Bhakta Gaurav had initially stopped this nice lady and after he saw how interested she was, he told her he wants her to meet me. So I showed her our set. I told her that these books will remove all the obstacles in her way that are stopping her from becoming spiritually advanced. I explained how the books can cost so much more in a book store like Barnes and Noble but here with us we just ask for a donation to help cover the cost of printing and shipping. I asked her to please give something so she offered $20 at first but I asked her if she could manage offering a little bit more! She told me she needs to keep some cash to get some food so I told her it’s ok we can also give her some food, we have the best spiritually blessed food. Nice good hearted couple from the Dominican Republic. The wife started dancing when she first saw the Harinam so I went up to them and showed them our set. I told them that Gopal Champu, one of my best friends, is from Dominican Republic and I said in Spanish: “Es mi hermano de alma!” (He’s my soul brother)
She told me she was pregnant and didn’t think she could take all these books at this time. So I said: “please, you and your husband take these books and you will get the best blessings for your child so he can become a saint!”

I spoke to him in Hindi at first but it turns out he was actually from Hyderabad so I starting to him in Telugu! I told him about Lord Balaji in Tirupati, how He’s the Lord of the seven hills and how we are offering these seven books in His honor! I said: “I haven’t met anyone as pious and kind like you all day, please take these books.” He told me that he has most of the books already so I told him ok no problem but to at least take one book so he looked at the book table and chose a “Bhagavad Gita as it is” He gave $20 as a donation for it but I was bold and asked him if he could please give $50 instead! Real nice guy from Jamaica. I met him a few days ago in Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn subway when the Harinam was going on there. He was really interested in the books but he didn’t have any money and didn’t take a book at that time. I saw that he was a sincere and spiritual guy so I invited him to our Sunday feast program. He came all the way from Queens in an Uber car service just to get some books and be part of the program. He loved it and is planning on coming to the Sunday program again next week.

This nice lady comes by the Harinam a lot and likes the devotees and the chanting. I said hello to her and she smiled at me so I asked her: “how are you? Here’s a cookie for you, can you help us out with a donation?” She asked me how much and I replied: “well no one has given a $100 yet today!” She looked in her purse and pulled out a $100 bill right there and then. It was amazing. I put the Mahat tattva stack in her hands and said: “please let’s take a picture!”

She had some boxing gloves around her neck and told me her form of meditation is boxing. She likes focusing her mind through this activity. When I showed her the books she told me she was familiar with the Bhagavad Gita. I told her all the other books compliment the Gita and expand the knowledge even more. I explained to her how many great personalities like Thoreau and Emerson have studied the Gita and she said she’s been inspired by them throughout her life. She saw the Harinam party and immediately came and sat down with the devotees to join the kirtan. I went to speak to her after she’d been chanting for some time and gave her some cookie prasadam. Her name is Stella and she told me she was just drawn to the chanting somehow even though she’d never seen devotees before. Really nice Russian American guy I ran into today. I told him that I loved his glasses and he must be smart. He goes to India twice a year for business. He showed me on his phone that he’s part of a WhatsApp Bhagavad Gita study group. I looked at it and it was Srila Prabhupada’s Gita. He also showed me a picture of Krishna Balarama from his phone. He has some of the books already and has several devotee friends.
So I showed him the “Prabhupada lilamarita” I told him that Srila Prabhupada is the ambassador of the spiritual world and he delivered the greatest wealth of Indian in the form of this spiritual knowledge.

Very humble young lady from Columbia. She came up to our book table looking for some spiritual guidance.
She’s very interested in spiritual knowledge and has been learning from a spiritual teacher but she doesn’t like him very much anymore because his teachings didn’t make much sense to her. I explained to her that most so called spiritual teachers nowadays are bogus and are cheating people with impersonal philosophy.

I saw him coming out of the subway and I went up to him and asked him if I had seen him before because he looked familiar! He told me it was his first time visiting the city! I told him you definitely look familiar somehow.
He’s been traveling on a spiritual quest and living a very renounced lifestyle searching after spiritual knowledge.
He was trying to figure out what the next step in his life was. He just returned from a trip to Dominican Republic where he was doing a sort of spiritual cleansing. So I showed him our set and told him how these books will bring him to the highest level, it’s the ultimate cleansing and ultimate in self realization. He was going back to Houston, where he’s from, that same night but he gave me his contact info and said he hopes we can keep in touch.

I was going home back to the ashram and I really wanted to do another set. I was praying to Krishna to send someone and I was stopping a few people here and there but not luck. Then I crossed the light and I saw this nice girl who looked familiar.
I told her that I liked her tattoos and they made her look very spiritual. It turns out I had given her a “Srimad bhagavatam 1st canto” a few years ago in Times Square subway.

World famous author Deepak Chopra!
He walked out of the subway and was looking at his phone when Kaliya Krishna prabhu spotted him and told me and Krishna prasad prabhu to go talk to him. We both said hello and he told us that he lives close to Union square park. He’s visited many Iskcon temples and one of his favorites was the Bhaktivedanta manor in London. He told me he was good friends with George Harrison who donated the manor to the devotees.
Krishna prasad prabhu gave him a cookie and said: “this is prasadam from Bhagavan Shri Krishna!” He gladly accepted it and put some cash in the donation basket. He told us that he has many of Srila Prabhupada’s books but I went and got a set anyway and put it in his hands. He asked if we could all take a picture together on his phone. He wanted to give another donation but said he didn’t have any more cash then I told him we accept credit cards so he gave generously. He thanked us!

I showed her our set and told her: “We’re giving these books out to all the cultured people especially these Vedas and the Puranas so we can preserve this priceless knowledge and put it in the hands of qualified people like you.”
She told me: “you know I can get the whole set in India for very cheap but I want to get them from you because you’re trying to spread Dharma in the world and I respect that a lot. I really like what you’re all doing here with the chanting and the books.”

Nice young lady from Guyana. She had a soft heart and she grew up in a family of pious Hindus. I told her these books will make you and your family Gaudiya Vaishnavas and that has nothing to do with piety or impiety but only with pure devotional service unto the transcendent Lord who is praised with transcendental songs. I quoted directly from the Srimad bhagavatam. She took the set to share it with her family.

This nice lady works for a business firm in midtown Manhattan. She was walking by me fast to go back to work after her lunch break. These books are about Krishna, the Supreme Personality Of Godhead!” Then she asked me: “who’s Krishna?” I explained how He’s the most beautiful personality before, during and after the creation! This nice lady has been going to the Bhakti center for some time. She really enjoys attending the Thursday night kirtans there. She hasn’t received one of Srila Prabhupadas’ books yet so I showed her our set. I told her that by reading these books she will be able to understand the glories of the Hare Krishna maha mantra and why this chanting is the best thing she could do in her life! She was very interested in reading about the glories of the Holy name and immediately gave me a nice donation and took the set home!

Gopal Champu prabhu recalls:
She was a super sincere and appreciative lady. She’s been wanting to read the “Bhagavad Gita” ever since she was an English student in college, so I showed her our set.
When I told what we asked for as a donation for the set she couldn’t believe it because it’s such a great deal. She used to work for a publishing company and told me she knows that all these books are worth so much more than what we’re asking for. I introduced her to Kavichandra swami and told her he’s been a practicing monk for over 45 years, they spoke for a little while, she was very respectful and honored to meet him. She was very grateful and told me she knows that these books are so special.

Mahotsaha prabhu recalls:
I was on my way home after Harinam and all of a sudden I saw this pious young Indian lady named Snigda. So I said: “Hare Krishna mataji, do you speak Telugu?” She told she did speak Telugu and she knows Hare Krishna from when she was in Manipal where she used to go to temple and attend the classes. I showed her Srila Prabhupadas’ biography and told her to please take it. She was saying that she’s a pharmacy student and didn’t have much time for reading other books right now. So I told her: “it’s ok just read these books for five minutes everyday, no problem what’s the difficulty?” It was amazing because we ran out of “Saptarishi” sets, all we had left was the “Prabhupada Lilamrita” sets and Krishna sent this nice girl to take one.

She was walking by and I said: “wow I really love your energy, you look so special, the most special person I’ve seen so far today. Are you into meditation by any chance?” She told me she likes to meditate so I showed her our set and asked her to please take these beautiful books. I said: “if you don’t take these books who will? You’re so qualified. These books will relieve you from the cycle of birth and death."
She told me it was too much for her to carry but I told her not to worry because we have strong bags for her to carry them in. At first she only gave $3 but I said please give more so she said ok she’ll give $20 then I said just please add another $20 and she agreed. She was paying by credit card so I asked her if she wants to add a tip for the musicians and she added another $8! In the end when she was leaving she smiled and said: “you somehow or other ended up getting the full $50 donation you wanted! I’m looking forward to reading the books.”
