Mahotsaha prabhu recalls:
This nice gentleman named Wayne from Brooklyn is familiar with the Hare Krishna movement and actually met Srila Prabhupada one time. His wife’s parents are devotees and he actually got married in the Philadelphia temple many years ago! He was happy to come in contact with the Harinam in the subway today. He wanted to support us so he purchased a “Sapta” set and told me that he will show it to his wife as soon as he gets home.

It’s Wayne from Brooklyn!

Krishna prasad prabhu recalls:
Really nice young lady named Shu from China, her name means “book” in Chinese! When I stopped her she immediately said: “Hare Krishna!” It turns out she’s staying at a bed and breakfast on the west side of Manhattan owned by some nice devotees and she’s going to help out in the food for life programs they do three times a week in Tompkins square park not far from the famous Prabhupada tree! She’s also met some devotees in South Korea when she was there on a work assignment some months ago. She’s a professional mandarin teacher who travels all around the world on special teaching assignments on behalf of the company she works for. She said she likes her job because she travels a lot and gets to see the world but she wants to open her own Chinese language teaching business and make it more faith based and spiritual. When I showed her our set she said: “You know what’s funny I don’t normally carry any cash on me but this morning I went to the ATM and took out some cash for some reason!” She gave me a nice cash donation and happily took the set.

Her name is Shu, it means “book” in Chinese!

Mahotsaha prabhu recalls:
Really cool lady named Lashon visiting New York from Georgia.
When I saw her I noticed she was wearing a sweat shirt that said “Black queen” on it and I said: “wow I love your shirt that’s so cool. Have you heard of Tupac Shakur, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King Jr.?” She said yes of course so I showed her a Sapta set and told her that all those great people read some of these amazing spiritual books to get inspiration in their lives. I told her that the books speak about the “Self sufficient philosopher who’s been fulfilling everyone's desires since time immemorial.” (It’s a quote from Sri Isopanishad) She was saying that she’s been working as a nurse since the age of 18 and now she’s retired due to a work place injury and lives on disability even though she’s only in her 40’s! She really loved working as a nurse and helping people so I told her that we’re monks and we also help people so she kindly offered a generous donation and took the set home!

It’s Lashon, she’s a nurse from Georgia!

Gopal Champu prabhu recalls:
Really nice lady named Shanti originally from Jamaica now living with her family in Connecticut.
It’s her son Amari’s 13th birthday and she brought him along with her other son to visit the city for the day. She told me that she likes to meditate and she really loves to read. I showed her our set and explained about each book briefly, how the Bhagavad Gita teaches us how even though we’re living in the material world we can still live a spiritual life and come closer to God every day. She was saying that she had a more spiritual upbringing in Jamaica because people there live a more simple way of life appreciating what God gives them through nature. She told me it’s good that we have these spiritual books available to the public and she will definitely start reading them with her kids.

Gopal Champu prabhu recalls:
Nice lady named Norma from Brooklyn originally of Native America descent. She saw the Harinam and noticed the donation basket sign which says “Donation Thank you Blessings!” So she came up and asked: “is this where I get the blessings?” and put some change in the basket. Then I went up to her and asked her if she’s into meditation and she told me that she likes to meditate and she’s quite a spiritual person. She said that spirituality runs in her family because they’re Cherokee Native Americans and feel connected to nature by respecting all its gifts like the sun, the moon, the wilderness like trees. I told her that there’s probably a lot of connections between India’s Vedic culture and Native American Indian culture then showed our set of books and her eyes lit up. I started to explain to her each one of the books and she particularly liked when I told her that the Srimad Bhagavatam teaches us how to distinguish between reality and illusion or the difference between spiritual and material thoughts. She very happily gave a donation and felt that she truly got some real blessings by receiving this ancient spiritual knowledge.

It’s Norma, she’s Cherokee Native American!

Ananda prabhu recalls:
I first met Giovanni and his mom in Union square park during the summer and they bought a “Saptarishi” set from me. I kept in touch with him and invited him to the ashram for the Sunday feast programs. He’s been attending regularly and sometimes even comes out to the Harinam and chants with us in the public kirtans. He’s been reading Srila Prabhupada’s books all throughout and today when he came to the Sunday feast he told me that he’s ready to buy a Bhagavatam set. It’s always good to keep in touch with sincere people who take books and develop a relationship with them.
