Super sweet guy named Zam from Brooklyn.
He ran into the Harinam about a year ago and took some books from us. Since then he’s been reading Prabhupada’s books and chanting “Hare Krishna” daily. He put a Jagannath sticker that we had given him on his work helmet for good luck and it’s been there for a year now! He’s working construction in the area where we’ve been distributing books for the past week and he’s been seeing us regularly. I’ve been talking to him and planting the seed for him to get a Mahat tattva. He was telling me that he wants to get serious about spiritual life and now that his daughter turned 21 years old he has more time to himself because she’s less dependent on him and his wife. He’s up to chanting 6 rounds of japa daily and he wants to increase it and become more focused on his Krishna consciousness. He got all the enthusiasm to take up the chanting on his own just from reading Srila Prabhupada’s books, it’s amazing!

Really down to earth gentleman named Kenrick from the Bronx originally from Jamaica!
He was happy to see us and always comes by the book table to say hello and look at the books. He’s read the “Bhagavad Gita as it is” and “the Science of self realization!” He’s a truck driver by profession and has some down time between his work trips so he loves to read. He listens to Hare Krishna chanting at night when he’s falling asleep and he loves the calm feeling it gives him. He’s a vegetarian and he’s been wanting to go with his wife to the Govindas restaurant in Brooklyn Radha Govinda mandir to try it out! He wanted to get the “Sapta” set for a friend of his as a Christmas gift and he also wanted to get a few other books for himself so he took the “Teachings of Lord Chaitanya” and “Nectar of devotion” plus a few small books too! Then I showed him the Lilamrita and told him that he will love the biography of Srila Prabhupada and how he started this world wide Hare Krishna movement and he said: “ok I’ll take everything! I love you guys and it’s so nice to see you all out here!”

Nice family from Columbia now living in Miami. The mom and her two kids and her best friend were here in New York for the holidays. When I started showing the mom the books she actually started crying and told me how much she needs this spiritual knowledge in her life right now. I explained to her and the family that these are special spiritual books of ancient knowledge from India and they will relieve them from all the material problems if they apply the knowledge in their lives. The mother’s friend and her children were all very favorable and enthusiastic so they all got books.

Nice lady from Puerto Rico. She walked by our book table and stopped then asked me how much the books were selling for. I showed her a few books and told her the different donations people usually give. I was sure she would take a “Sapta” set because she was so sincere but we ran out and I had asked one devotee to bring one with him. Just at that moment this devotee arrived with the “Sapta” and I told her that these books just came in especially for her! She smiled and gave a generous donation for the set very happily and wished me a happy New Year!

Really friendly guy name Jeffrey originally from Afghanistan now living in Washington DC.
Him and his friend started dancing when they saw the Harinam and even played the shakers very enthusiastically! He was visiting New York with his friend for a New Year’s Eve party and he’s leaving back to DC in a couple of hours. He’s into guided meditation and fitness and loves to read spiritual books. He’s heard of the Hare Krishnas before and wanted to check out the books so I showed him our set. He told me that he passed by the Harinam earlier and spoke to one of the devotees who showed him a few books but he didn’t end up taking one somehow so I said: “yeah you didn’t take one because you didn’t talk to me! Now here’s 7 books please take all of them!” And he did!

I met Adam and his Nepali wife along with her parents at the Philadelphia temple. They had come to the temple seeking blessings after having a ceremony for their new born baby boy at their house. I served them prasadam and then showed them the books explaining that by taking these books they will attract the blessings of the seven great sages, the guru parampara and Krsna. Adam happily accepted the books, recognizing the “Bhagavad-gita as it is” and the “Science of self realization” from a previous visit to New Vrindaban. He felt very welcome and promised to bring his family more often to the temple to associate with the devotees.

Really nice guy named Evan that stopped to talk with me and said he was into meditation and likes to read. At first, I showed him a “Science of Self Realization” and told him these are books by our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada. The only cash that he had in his wallet was a $50 bill so he gave it to me right away and said something I couldn’t quite hear so I assumed he was asking me for change. I started to make change for him, but then he said he didn’t need any! So I brought him over to the book table and gave him our “Sapta” set to take home with him. He was surprised that he was getting so many books at one time for his donation and was very happy to receive them. I invited him to our Sunday feast at our ashram and he told me he’ll visit us soon.
