Really nice young lady named Shu from China, her name means “book” in Chinese! When I stopped her she immediately said: “Hare Krishna!” It turns out she’s staying at a bed and breakfast on the west side of Manhattan owned by some nice devotees and she’s going to help out in the food for life programs they do three times a week in Tompkins square park not far from the famous Prabhupada tree! She’s also met some devotees in South Korea when she was there on a work assignment some months ago. She’s a professional mandarin teacher who travels all around the world on special teaching assignments on behalf of the company she works for. She said she likes her job because she travels a lot and gets to see the world but she wants to open her own Chinese language teaching business and make it more faith based and spiritual. When I showed her our set she said: “You know what’s funny I don’t normally carry any cash on me but this morning I went to the ATM and took out some cash for some reason!” She gave me a nice cash donation and happily took the set.
